Whenever I am planning a photo shoot with a client or family, one of the biggest decisions can be location. And understandably so. You definitely want to pick a place that is not only visually appealing, but that will reflect the vision you have in your head. One that will rival the Pinterest images you have spent time looking at and hoping to recreate. But it is also important to remember that you may want to pick a location that you are comfortable in. Particularly if you have children in the shoot. Because that will really help to shine through in your photos.

The L family that I worked with last weekend is a perfect example of this. Momma L chose Ridley Park Lake - a very underrated, yet stunning, location for photos. Her two sons knew the lake well, which helped them to act in a natural way. In fact, one of the two boys even came out of his shell during our shoot, all to his mom's surprise! Before we started shooting, she told me that one boy tended to be a 'ham', while the other was more reserved. But looking at these pictures, you can't tell which boy tends to love having his picture taken more than the other! Which is exactly what you want - a comfortable shoot that allows everyone's personalities to come to life. So when planning your pictures, please PLEASE don't discount Ridley Park Lake. It tends to be an underrated and underappreciated location, but it offers a lot of different scenery and options for you! We really do have a serene spot right in our backyards.

These two boys, they are gonna melt hearts <3
